What do you do to protect your reputation in an AI world?

All of us know, at some level, what it means to protect your reputation. You work hard to build a solid or great reputation, and now, more than ever, it can be taken away from you in an AI instant. The individuals, brands and organizations that reach out to me, or my company regarding reputation issues all have at least this one element in common: a reputation in shatters or about to be. AI is enhancing the rapidity of the initial harmful reputation action, and then also acts to amplify the harmful reputation action, sometimes without humans involved.

We are now seeing viral, and completely fake AI videos being used to both directly attack, as well as to support these attacks with malign press, malign social media posts and malign generative AI results in search.

Many, many years ago I first started writing about the risks to reputations from sudden online or offline events. see this and this one from recently and this even earlier one from over a decade ago.

Why do I as a cybersecurity expert focus so much time in reputation issues? Because of the crossover that exists in many reputation attacks, as either a corollary to an ongoing cybersecurity attack, or sometimes as the social engineering prelude in an effort to gain information. Many years ago, I invented a business process. Every year I have a discussion with my patent lawyer about whether the trade secrets should become a patent. Every year, now since 2010, the answer remains we keep it as a trade secret.

Why?Well, two things really. 1. It allows us to remain at the bleeding edge ahead of our competition. 2. AI and other technologies have been and are advancing so rapidly, that a patent for such a business process probably would not make sense.

Google yourself. Google your family. Google your business. Same with Bing, Yahoo, Duck Duck Go. See what you or your organization looks like. Not just in the vertical search results, but also in the generative AI, in the images, in the snapshots. Wanna bet how many times people and organizations do that, only to come back with unhappy responses? Often times a company will hire an SEO company, but not look at semantic language usage, or context of content relative to various platforms. Many do not understand generative AI and therefore do not understand how to change those results, *not SEO*.

We do it better than almost anyone. Why do global CEOS and celebrities and athletes trust our work? Proven results time and again. Some people like to do the humble brag. Nope. I am all in on the brag! In our own cybersecurity and reputation world, my company ranks above our competitors and also several multi-billion dollar computer, finance and other companies. We have maintained these 1st in search, 1st in generative AI, first in snippets for years against these competitors with zero dollars spent on advertising or ongoing SEO efforts. This is true in over 10 specific industry important keyword searches. How would you feel if you ran a multi-billion dollar company, spending heavy six figures to seven figures on SEO and branding, only to constantly come in 2nd place to a boutique company, year after year?
